A simple medical procedure such as a CT scan or MRI should provide answers, not a tragedy. When medical personnel is not trained properly and sick and vulnerable people are under their care, someone should be held responsible.  When our loved ones are at their weakest, a hospital should be there to help, not create more harm and injury.

At The Weitz Firm, LLC, our Philadelphia nursing home abuse lawyers want to discuss a case in a hospital here in Pennsylvania that neglected to respond quickly enough to an alarm, causing irreparable harm.

What Happened In This Philadelphia Medical Malpractice Suit?

In October 2016, Christopher Miller went into the hospital complaining of back pain and he was given an MRI to diagnose the problem. During the procedure, Miller had an allergic reaction to the gadolinium, a chemical used to create contrasts in the MRI. As a result, he went into cardiac arrest and received brain damage that gave him the functioning and mental acuity of a young child.

The MRI room did not have the necessary epinephrine shot that could have prevented the cardiac arrest and the subsequent brain damage. An alarm was sounded, but no one responded to it, and when the emergency room medical director entered the MRI room, he searched for the cause of the alarm, not seeing that Miller was in distress.  By the time they transported him to the emergency room, they had carelessly run out of time. Since no one could have the drugs on hand needed or respond in the quickest way, Miller lost any kind of normal adult life for the rest of his days.
